Former presidential candidate and ex-Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Chief Peter Ameh, has declared that Peter Obi is the only political figure capable of defeating incumbent President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News' Morning Show, Ameh made the bold claim that available data indicates Peter Obi actually won the 2023 presidential election but was denied victory through electoral malpractices.

"The only way to defeat this current government is to have a candidate that will have the capacity to do so, and that is Peter Obi," Ameh stated emphatically.

Ameh, who revealed he had attended several meetings of the current opposition coalition, emphasized that Nigeria needs a compassionate leader who genuinely identifies with citizens experiencing hardship. He argued that the coalition's chances of success depend on fielding a candidate with genuine public appeal and organic support.

"You need candidates that have momentum, that have the public appeal, that have organic depth of support to be able to go into the ballot, so that when you go on to the ballot, you have the opportunity to remove the current government," he explained.

Citing regional voting patterns from the 2023 election, Ameh presented figures claiming Obi secured 48% of votes in the South, compared to Tinubu's 35.5% and Atiku's 19.4%. He further alleged that Obi had "defeated every candidate that participated in the South" while also gaining "substantial share" in northern regions.

The former IPAC chairman referenced alleged irregularities in the electoral process, pointing to the IREV (INEC Results Viewing Portal) and reports by media organizations including the BBC and Premium Times that purportedly showed discrepancies in official results, particularly in Rivers State.

"We need to go to the IREV and see that there are a lot of irregularities, a lot of forged results that were posted there. And if you look at the BBC report 'exposure' done on River State, including the Premium Times, you will find out that Peter Obi defeated every other candidate in Rivers State," Ameh claimed.

He cautioned against selecting candidates who fail to connect with Nigerians or show compassion to those experiencing hardship, warning that such choices could further set the country back.

Ameh also dismissed suggestions that the opposition coalition must field a northern candidate to defeat Tinubu, arguing that what defeated former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 wasn't merely northern sentiment but also the implosion within the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
