Members of the Obidient Movement in Ebonyi State have emphatically stated that Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, remains the most qualified individual to lead Nigeria out of its current challenges come 2027.
The declaration was made during an event held in Abakaliki on Saturday to commemorate Obi's 64th birthday anniversary.
Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, a member of the National Advisory Committee of the Obidient Movement, described the former Anambra governor as "an institution of hope" who embodies the character, competence, capacity, and compassion that Nigeria desperately needs in its current economic and political state.
"Within the week, we visited vulnerable places, hospitals, leprosy homes, and mother-and-baby shelters across the state. It is important to note that what is happening here in Ebonyi is also happening across the country and in the diaspora, wherever Nigerians are," Dr. Ezeh told journalists at the event.
He added, "We believe that Peter Obi, who is an institution of hope, represents the hope of the common man. Despite how bad things are—from corruption and economic mismanagement to leadership failure—we believe that a Peter Obi presidency is what Nigeria needs at this time."
Warning Against Highest Bidder Politics
Splendor Oko Eze, the Labour Party's 2023 governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, cautioned leaders of coalition parties against turning the presidential race into a contest for the highest bidder.
"Nobody is more qualified than Peter Obi. For those suggesting he should settle for vice president, how can a man who pulled this kind of votes, who transformed a party with no structure into one that produced senators, House of Reps members, and even a governor, be pushed aside?" Eze questioned.
He further warned: "I want to warn the coalition parties: do not impose any candidate on the people. Coalition should be a platform for liberating poor Nigerians—not for selling tickets to the highest bidder. The most qualified person is Peter Obi."
The Obidient Movement's celebration of Obi's birthday included charitable activities across Ebonyi State, reflecting similar events held nationwide and in the diaspora.
As political alignments continue to form ahead of the 2027 presidential election, supporters of the former Anambra governor remain steadfast in their belief that his leadership style and track record make him the ideal candidate to address Nigeria's multifaceted challenges.
