The newly formed opposition coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared its intention to democratically wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the party's interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, emphasized that the ADC has no interest in disrupting Nigeria's democratic process, contrary to recent allegations.
The clarification comes in response to accusations from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, who allegedly claimed that opposition parties were plotting to overthrow the current administration before the 2027 elections.
"We are not soldiers, we are politicians. We don't have bullets; we only have the ballots," Abdullahi stated, reaffirming the party's commitment to constitutional means of seeking power.
The ADC spokesperson further emphasized that a healthy democracy requires a free, open, and competitive political environment. He assured Nigerians that the party remains dedicated to building a better Nigeria through peaceful democratic participation.
This development comes amid growing political realignments as various opposition parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC emerging as a potential major challenger to the ruling APC.
