Turkish football expert Devrim Zengi has provided compelling reasons why Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is likely to remain at Galatasaray beyond this summer's transfer window, despite interest from several European clubs and Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal.
Osimhen, 26, recently concluded his loan spell with the Turkish Super Lig champions and has yet to decide where he will play next season. While the striker remains contracted to Napoli, his future has been the subject of intense speculation.
European Clubs Hesitant Due to AFCON
According to Zengi, European clubs are reluctant to sign African players, including Osimhen, due to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). "This year, there is a one-month African Cup. Victor Osimhen may also play there. That is why he may miss 4-5 matches," Zengi explained.
"Some teams are staying away from the players who will go to the African Cup for this reason," he added, highlighting a challenge many African players face in the transfer market.
Galatasaray's Financial Advantage
Zengi believes Galatasaray holds a significant advantage over European competitors in terms of the financial package they can offer the Nigerian international. "No matter how much the European teams offer, they cannot reach Galatasaray's salary offer," he stated.
This financial edge could prove decisive in convincing Osimhen to extend his stay in Istanbul, with Zengi suggesting that clarity on the situation should emerge "in a few days."
Saudi Arabia Not an Option
Despite reported interest from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, Zengi revealed that a move to the Middle East appears unlikely for Osimhen. "He has already completely closed the door to Saudi Arabia. His family does not want that place either," Zengi disclosed.
This personal preference further narrows Osimhen's options and strengthens Galatasaray's position in potentially securing his services for the upcoming season.
Osimhen has already made a significant impact during his loan spell at Galatasaray, recently winning the Goal of the Season award in Turkey, further endearing him to the club's supporters.
As the transfer saga continues, Nigerian football fans will be watching closely to see where one of their national team's key players will be plying his trade in the coming season.
