Everton are preparing to launch a bid for Nigerian international midfielder Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City this summer, BenriNews reports.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder is looking to exit Leicester City following the Foxes' relegation from the Premier League last season, despite signing a new three-year contract with the club last summer.
Ndidi's current contract includes a £9 million release clause, making him an attractive option for Premier League clubs seeking midfield reinforcements.
Previous Interest and Competition
This isn't the first time Everton have shown interest in the Nigerian midfielder. The Merseyside club attempted to sign Ndidi before the start of last season, but their advances were rejected by the player at that time.
Everton now face competition from multiple fronts. French Ligue 1 club Monaco previously tried to secure Ndidi's signature in January but had their offer rejected by Leicester City. Additionally, several Saudi Arabian clubs are reportedly interested in the midfielder, with lucrative financial packages being prepared to tempt him away from European football.
Ndidi's Leicester City Legacy
Ndidi has been a key figure at Leicester City since joining from Belgian club KRC Genk in January 2017. During his time with the Foxes, he has made 252 appearances and scored 11 goals.
One of the highlights of his Leicester career came during the 2020/21 season when he played a crucial role in helping the club secure the Emirates FA Cup, adding a significant trophy to his professional achievements.
Known for his ball-winning abilities and defensive work rate, Ndidi has established himself as one of the Premier League's most reliable defensive midfielders during his six-and-a-half years at the King Power Stadium.
As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Everton can secure the services of the Nigerian international or if he will opt for a move elsewhere.
