One person has been confirmed dead following an armed robbery attack on Sunday night in Tse Yange, a Tiv-majority community in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

According to local sources, unknown gunmen stormed a popular provision store in the area late at night, stealing goods and a motorcycle during the operation. The attack caused panic and confusion among residents of the community.

A community leader, who requested anonymity, confirmed the fatality and stated that the assailants fled before security operatives could arrive at the scene.

Police Response and Investigation

Spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in an official statement released on Monday. He assured that police have launched a thorough investigation into the attack.

Nansel specifically addressed rumors circulating about the nature of the incident, stating: "It is important to clarify that this was an armed robbery attack, not a case of kidnapping as speculated in some quarters."

This incident comes amid growing concerns about security in rural communities across Nasarawa State, particularly in areas with significant Tiv populations that have previously experienced various security challenges.

Residents have called for increased security presence in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure the safety of community members.
