The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully thwarted an armed robbery operation along the Toro/Jos federal highway in the early hours of Tuesday, June 4, 2025. The incident, which saw armed criminals mounting a blockade on the busy highway, ended with one suspect killed during a gun duel with security operatives.
According to a statement released on Thursday by CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Command's spokesperson, police received a distress call at approximately 3:30am reporting that armed robbers had blocked the highway and were robbing travelers of their possessions.
Swift Response by Security Forces
"Upon receipt of the report, a team of operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Toro Division in collaboration with auxiliary security forces, immediately mobilised to the scene," the statement detailed.
The police team engaged the criminals in what was described as a fierce gun battle. Faced with superior firepower from the security operatives, the robbers reportedly fled in disarray, abandoning their operation.

Several items were recovered from the scene of the attempted robbery, including a knife, a stick, two bottles of rubber solution, two cigarette pieces, and a flashlight. These items have been taken as evidence as investigations continue.
The remains of the deceased suspect have been handed over to the Social Welfare Department in Toro for proper burial arrangements, the police spokesperson confirmed.
The Bauchi State Police Command has assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects who fled the scene. The Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of travelers along the highway and maintaining peace within the state.
