Operatives of the Ogun State Amotekun Corps, Ewekoro Command, successfully foiled a robbery attempt and rescued a 28-year-old gunshot victim in Akinale town, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

The victim, identified as Opeyemi Olusanya, was found in a pool of blood after being shot in the upper region of his left limb around 1:20 am on Saturday. Amotekun officers promptly rushed him to a private hospital in Obada-Oko for urgent medical attention.

Swift Response to Distress Call

According to Col. Tajudeen Bakare (rtd), the Corps Deputy Commander, the rescue mission was initiated following a distress call from a local resident. Upon arrival at the scene, the security operatives encountered the robbers who attempted to flee in their operational vehicle—a wine-colored Kia Cerato with registration number KRD 840 JS.

"On arriving the scene, the thieves attempted to flee in their wine-colored Kia Cerato operational vehicle with registration number KRD 840 JS belonging to one Ariwoola Abiola Wasiu of Ifesowapo Estate, Adunbu, Itori," Bakare explained.

The vehicle was later confirmed to belong to Ariwoola Abiola Wasiu, a resident of Ifesowapo Estate in Adunbu, Itori.

Robbers Escape with Valuables

Despite the Amotekun's intervention, the robbers managed to escape into a nearby bush, abandoning their vehicle but making off with several valuable items. The stolen items included:

  • Eight sophisticated mobile phones
  • Two laptops
  • Jewelry
  • N54,000 in cash

"At the sight of the combatant Amotekun operatives, the robbers took to their heels, made off with valuables, as they managed to escape into the nearby bush, leaving behind their operational vehicle," the Deputy Commander stated.

Investigation Ongoing

Bakare confirmed that the recovered vehicle has been handed over to the Itori division of the Nigeria Police Force. A thorough investigation into the robbery incident and the escape of the perpetrators is currently ongoing.

The Deputy Commander emphasized that the prompt and proactive action of the Ogun State Amotekun Corps demonstrates their commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring safety and security throughout the state.

This incident highlights the increasing role of regional security outfits like Amotekun in complementing the efforts of conventional security agencies in combating crime across southwestern Nigeria.
