At least four football clubs are reportedly prepared to meet the wage demands of Nigerian international striker Victor Osimhen, according to Nigerian broadcast journalist Onyebuchi Onokala, also known as Buchi Laba.
Osimhen, who currently plays for Napoli, has been the subject of intense transfer speculation after reportedly turning down a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal worth €40 million per year plus €5 million in bonuses.
Buchi Laba took to social media platform X on Friday to address misconceptions about Osimhen's transfer situation, stating: "There's so much less talk about clubs not willing to pay Gyökeres' release clause, more than so much foolish talk that clubs don't want to pay Victor Osimhen's wages."
"No club has issues with his release clause and I can count four clubs willing to pay him the wages he's currently on. Some even more," he added.
Nigerian Perception Affecting Transfer Narrative
The journalist further suggested that Nigerian fans themselves have contributed to negative narratives surrounding Osimhen's wage demands. "One of the main reasons why Victor Osimhen's wages became a talking point is because of Nigerians. We are not as smart as we claim to be. Honestly. Especially the ones in suits," Buchi Laba wrote.
This development comes amid reports that Al-Hilal's president, Bin Nafal, recently revealed why the Saudi club failed to secure Osimhen's signature, while other reports suggest the striker's chances of remaining at his current loan club Galatasaray are increasing.
Former Chelsea star Didier Drogba has also reportedly been involved in trying to persuade Osimhen to join the London club, drawing criticism from some football pundits.
Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has advised his former club to pursue Osimhen instead of Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyökeres, highlighting the Nigerian striker's continued appeal to top European clubs.
As the transfer saga continues, football fans will be watching closely to see which of the four unnamed clubs might secure the services of the prolific Nigerian forward.
