Al-Hilal president, Fahad Bin Nafal, has revealed that "illogical" counter offers and player fatigue after a long season are the two main reasons why the Saudi Pro League club failed to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and other high-profile targets during the current transfer window.
Despite appointing former Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi, who recently lost the Champions League final, Al-Hilal has struggled to secure their primary transfer targets including Osimhen, AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez, and Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, despite offering substantial financial packages.
"We've spoken with many players, but they want to go on vacation after a long season," Bin Nafal explained. "We tried to sign several players before the World Cup, but were unsuccessful due to lack of time and faced illogical offers."
The Saudi club also reportedly attempted to lure Cristiano Ronaldo from rivals Al-Nassr with the attractive prospect of playing in the Club World Cup, but that effort also proved unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, reports suggest Osimhen's potential move to Galatasaray is gaining momentum, with the Turkish club reportedly willing to take Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson as part of a potential deal involving the Nigerian forward.
Osimhen, who has been linked with several European clubs in recent months, continues to be one of the most sought-after strikers in the transfer market, with his future remaining uncertain as the summer window progresses.
