Former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo has revealed why top European clubs are showing reluctance to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer.

Despite establishing himself as one of Europe's premier strikers over the past three seasons, with title-winning contributions at both Napoli and Galatasaray, the 26-year-old Nigerian international has struggled to attract concrete interest from elite clubs.

Speaking to Brila FM, Obodo explained: "I know Osimhen would still like to play European football and achieve a lot, but the clause Napoli put on him and his wages are scaring clubs away. The clubs do not want to make a decision that will come back and make them regret."

Osimhen, who has already rejected lucrative offers from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, appears determined to continue his career in Europe. However, Obodo suggested there might be other factors at play beyond financial considerations.

"If Osimhen were Brazilian, they (European top clubs) would have signed since," Obodo claimed, hinting at possible bias in the transfer market.

The striker's situation remains one of the most intriguing transfer sagas of the summer, with Napoli reportedly setting a substantial release clause that has deterred potential suitors despite Osimhen's proven goal-scoring record.

While Osimhen is expected to leave Naples permanently this transfer window, his destination remains uncertain as clubs weigh the financial implications of meeting Napoli's demands.
