Newly appointed Atalanta head coach Ivan Juric has made his intentions clear regarding Nigerian international Ademola Lookman, expressing his determination to keep the talented winger at the Italian club despite growing transfer speculation.
Lookman, who has been a standout performer for Atalanta, has attracted interest from several European giants including Napoli, Juventus, and Premier League side Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window.
Coach's Commitment to Retain Key Players
Speaking about his plans for the squad, Juric emphasized his desire to maintain the core of the team that achieved remarkable success last season, particularly highlighting Lookman's importance.
"The idea would be to keep both Lookman and Ederson, even if the club has clear ideas on the market and I have not made any request on players, not even on those I have had," the former Southampton coach was quoted as saying.
Lookman's Impressive Form
The 27-year-old Nigerian international enjoyed a remarkable 2024/25 campaign with Atalanta, registering an impressive 22 goals and 5 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions. His outstanding performances were instrumental in Atalanta's successful season, which included European glory.
Lookman's contract situation adds another layer of complexity to his future at the Bergamo club, as he has just one year remaining on his current deal with La Dea. This contractual position has further fueled speculation about a potential move this summer.
The Nigerian forward, who previously switched his international allegiance from England to Nigeria, has seen his career flourish since joining the Italian side, establishing himself as one of the most dynamic attacking talents in Serie A.
As the transfer window approaches, Atalanta fans will be closely monitoring developments, hoping that Juric's desire to retain Lookman will be enough to keep the Nigerian star at the club for at least another season.
