Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek has confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will remain with the Turkish Super Lig champions for the upcoming season, following the player's rejection of a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.
Osimhen, who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, turned down the Saudi club's approach on Sunday despite Al-Hilal's readiness to trigger the €75 million release clause in his contract. The 26-year-old Nigerian international has expressed his preference to continue his career in Europe rather than move to the Middle East.
"Victor Osimhen is staying at Galatasaray, his affection will be the most important factor. Negotiations are ongoing," Ozbek told Hurriyet. "We hope to give you good news next week."
The Galatasaray president indicated that talks are currently underway with Osimhen to finalize the details of his contract. This development comes amid speculation about the striker's future, with previous reports linking him to several European clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea.
Osimhen's decision to reject Al-Hilal's offer, which reportedly included a substantial salary package, signals his commitment to pursuing his career at the highest levels of European football rather than following the trend of players moving to the financially attractive Saudi Pro League.
The Nigerian striker has become a key figure for Galatasaray during his loan spell, contributing significantly to their Turkish Super Lig championship last season. His potential permanent stay would be a major boost for the Istanbul club as they prepare for domestic and European competitions in the upcoming season.
