Nigerian international striker Paul Onuachu is on the verge of making a permanent return to Turkish Super Lig giants Trabzonspor, as negotiations with Southampton progress, BenriNews reports.
Following Southampton's relegation from the Premier League, Onuachu is actively seeking a permanent transfer away from the English club this summer. Both clubs are currently engaged in advanced talks regarding the striker's potential move.
Impressive Loan Spell
The tall forward spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Trabzonspor, where he made a significant impact, netting an impressive 15 goals in just 21 league appearances for the Black Sea Storm.
Despite his stellar performance, Trabzonspor was unable to secure Onuachu on a permanent basis last summer after failing to meet Southampton's valuation of the player. However, circumstances have changed following the Saints' drop to the Championship.
For Onuachu, a return to Turkey represents an opportunity to continue his career at the top level of European football, while Southampton may be looking to offload higher-wage players as they adjust to life in England's second tier.
The potential transfer would mark another chapter in the 31-year-old striker's career, which has seen him play in Belgium with Genk before moving to Southampton in January 2023.
