The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Major General Abdul Khalifa Ibrahim, has declared that Kaduna State, home to the prestigious military institution, has experienced significant security improvements in recent months.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by executive members of the Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to the academy, Major General Ibrahim stated, "I can beat my chest to say that Kaduna State in the last few months is much safer than it used to be."
However, the Commandant acknowledged that the security situation has not reached its desired state. "We are not where we want to be yet. So we must join hands and work together so that we can have a country we can be proud of," he emphasized.
Collaborative Security Efforts
Major General Ibrahim highlighted the academy's ongoing security initiatives, revealing plans to establish a security helpline. "We are in the process of organising our security helpline, and very soon it will be operational. It will be ready so that if there is anything, we will be able to tackle it much earlier," he explained.
While clarifying that the NDA is not primarily a security outfit, the Commandant noted that the institution comprises senior military officers with extensive experience in maintaining security across the country.
Media Partnership for Security
During the interaction with journalists, whom he described as "watchdogs of society," Major General Ibrahim emphasized the crucial role media professionals play in enhancing security awareness. He urged the NUJ members to sensitize the public about the importance of reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
"The NDA and NUJ are partners in progress," the Commandant stated, underscoring the need for collaborative efforts in addressing security challenges facing the state and the nation at large.
The Commandant's assessment comes amid ongoing security concerns in various parts of northern Nigeria, with Kaduna State previously experiencing significant challenges from banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.
