Nigerian troops have successfully eliminated notorious bandit leader Guddel and his brother during a military operation in Kaduna State, marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against banditry in the region.
According to security analyst Bakatsine, who shared the information on X (formerly Twitter), Guddel was responsible for numerous attacks and abductions across Kaduna and neighboring states. "Troops have eliminated notorious bandit Guddel and his brother in Kaduna," Bakatsine confirmed in his post.
In a related development, Bakatsine also reported that infighting among bandits in Danmusa, Katsina State, has led to the escape of hostages who had been kidnapped from Kankara. "Infighting among Danmusa bandits also helped hostages from Kankara escape. Many bandits, including a top leader, were killed in the clash," he added.
As of the time of this report, security authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding these incidents. The elimination of Guddel represents a major victory for security forces working to combat the rising wave of banditry and kidnappings in Nigeria's northwestern region.
The successful operation comes amid intensified efforts by Nigerian security forces to tackle armed groups operating in the country's northern states. Recent weeks have seen several operations targeting bandit hideouts and leaders across multiple states.
Rising Security Operations Against Bandits
This latest success follows other recent security achievements in the region. BenriNews previously reported that Police Force Service (PFS) forces neutralized 10 bandits and recovered weapons in Zamfara State, while troops also eliminated terrorist kingpin Mallam Jidda and others in Borno State.
In Kaduna, police recently arrested 13 suspects in connection with the killing of a Naval officer, and in a separate operation, 27 criminal suspects were apprehended with weapons and hard drugs recovered.
Meanwhile, in Katsina State, police successfully foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued 11 abductees, demonstrating the continued efforts of security agencies to combat criminal activities across northern Nigeria.
Security experts have noted that targeting leadership figures within bandit groups, as in the case of Guddel, can significantly disrupt their operations and potentially lead to reduced criminal activities in affected areas.
