The Ogun State government has conducted a clearing operation to remove roadside traders from the vicinity of Kara cattle market near Ojodu Berger. The initiative aims to enhance public safety, maintain proper hygiene standards, and improve traffic flow in the area.
Farouk Akintunde, Special Adviser to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), disclosed on Wednesday that the operation was necessary to create a more organized and hygienic environment while encouraging traders to use designated market spaces.
"The state government is determined to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of Kara cattle market and ensure there is free flow of vehicular traffic," Akintunde stated.
Akintunde, who also serves as chairman of the Ogun State Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, emphasized the government's commitment to creating a conducive business environment while prioritizing the safety and well-being of citizens.
The Kara cattle market, situated along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, is recognized as the largest cattle market in the South-West region of Nigeria. The clearing operation is expected to significantly improve the market's appearance and functionality while addressing longstanding concerns about roadside trading activities that have contributed to traffic congestion and environmental issues in the area.
