A Magistrate's Court in Bolade, Oshodi has ordered the remand of 34 persons arrested for illegal street trading along the median of the Alaba Rago–Ojo section of the Lagos–Badagry Expressway. The group, comprising 32 men and 2 women, will remain in custody until July 22, 2025, when their case returns to court.
The arrests were made during a weekend joint enforcement operation conducted by officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force and the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
Unauthorized Structures and Criminal Hideouts
According to authorities, several of those apprehended were found residing in unauthorized shelters erected on the road median. These makeshift structures were allegedly being used as hideouts for criminal activities, raising concerns about public safety in the area.
The enforcement action forms part of a broader initiative by the Lagos State Government to dismantle illegal structures and restore order to public spaces that have been encroached upon by traders and makeshift settlements.

Government's Stance on Environmental Compliance
Commenting on the enforcement action, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized the administration's commitment to enforcing environmental laws and discouraging activities that disrupt public order.
"The state government remains resolute in maintaining environmental standards and ensuring that public spaces are used appropriately," Wahab stated. He called on residents to support the state's efforts to maintain a clean and sustainable environment, highlighting the importance of public compliance with existing regulations.
This crackdown on illegal street trading comes amid growing concerns about urban congestion, environmental degradation, and security challenges in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub.
