The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun and his predecessor, Ibikunle Amosun, have appealed to Nigerians to exercise more patience with President Bola Tinubu's administration, emphasizing that the ongoing economic reforms will eventually yield positive results despite current hardships.

The appeal was made on Friday while addressing Muslim faithful who gathered for the two Rakat prayer at the Lantoro praying ground in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, as part of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

Governor Abiodun Defends Economic Reforms

Governor Abiodun, represented by Senator Shuaib Salisu, acknowledged the difficulties Nigerians are facing but maintained that the president's bold economic decisions were necessary for long-term prosperity.

"Let me first acknowledge that things are a bit challenging for Nigerians as a whole. The challenges are a result of difficult but definitely must-take decisions to reform our economy," the governor stated.

He explained that President Tinubu had two options upon assuming office: "He could have continued to go on the side of the palliative as it had been done before, but the problem would linger. He decided to make a bold decision. This decision would necessarily occasion immediate pains but over time, and I can tell you that indications are looking up north."

The governor noted that while prices of items remain high, there has been "a significant drop in the prices of some" commodities, suggesting that the reforms are beginning to show positive effects.

Amosun Calls for Submission to Allah's Will

Former Governor Ibikunle Amosun used the occasion to remind Muslims about the core teachings of Eid-el-Kabir, emphasizing total adherence and submission to Allah's will.

"All the teaching of Eid-el-Kabir, we should not let it be lost on us. It is to have total adherence, belief and submission to the will of the Almighty Allah," Amosun said.

He added that this principle of submission could be extended to "all of our government and leaders," indirectly supporting the call for patience with the current administration.

The Eid-el-Kabir celebration, also known as Sallah, is one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah's command.
