KRC Genk president Peter Croonen has issued a stern warning to clubs interested in Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare, stating the Belgian club will not sell their prized asset for a cheap transfer fee.
Arokodare, 24, has attracted significant interest from European giants following an exceptional 2024/25 season in which he emerged as the top scorer in the Belgian Pro League with 21 goals.
"An amount like with Onuachu? Let me say that I don't want to say much about that, but we want much more," Croonen said, as quoted by Voetbalprimeur, referring to the €18 million fee Genk received when they sold Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu to Southampton in January 2023.
The Nigerian international's stellar performances earned him the prestigious Ebony Shoe award for the best African player in Belgium. He was also voted the third-best player overall in the Belgian Pro League for the 2024/25 season.
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Portuguese giants Benfica are reportedly among the clubs showing interest in acquiring Arokodare's services.
Despite acknowledging the financial realities of football, Croonen emphasized that Genk would hold out for a significant fee. "There is always pressure to sell, in every football club that wants to function autonomously," he added.
Arokodare's rise to prominence in Belgium follows the path of several Nigerian strikers who have excelled in the Belgian league before securing moves to bigger European clubs.
