The death toll from the devastating flood that swept through Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa communities in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State has climbed to 115, according to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).

NSEMA Public Relations Officer Ibrahim Hussaini, speaking on behalf of Director General Ibrahim Baba Arah, confirmed the rising casualty figures on Thursday while providing an update on the ongoing search and rescue operations.

"Contrary to what is being circulated on social media, we have recovered 115 bodies so far. The search and rescue operation is still ongoing," Hussaini stated.

The flood, which occurred on Thursday, devastated the two communities in Mokwa, leaving significant destruction in its wake. Emergency response teams continue to work in the affected areas as they search for more victims.

Ongoing Relief Efforts

NSEMA officials are coordinating with local authorities to provide immediate relief to survivors and affected families. The agency has deployed additional personnel to the disaster zone to assist with recovery efforts.

This disaster comes amid growing concerns about extreme weather events in Nigeria, particularly in states along major river basins. Niger State has experienced several flood-related incidents in recent years, including boat mishaps during high water periods.

Local residents and community leaders have called for improved early warning systems and flood prevention infrastructure to mitigate the impact of future flooding events.

As rescue operations continue, authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas across the state to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories, especially during the rainy season.

BenriNews will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
