Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has instructed the Ministry for Land and Survey to issue a Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) to the Federal Government to expedite the construction of resettlement homes for victims of the Mokwa flood disaster.

The directive came during the governor's on-site assessment of properties destroyed by flooding in Mokwa, where he addressed community members and pledged that the state government would provide both resettlement land and essential services.

Governor Bago assured residents that while awaiting the Federal Government's construction of permanent resettlement homes, his administration would make necessary arrangements to ensure flood victims do not remain in displacement camps for extended periods.

Relief Materials and Support

As part of immediate relief efforts, the governor announced that the state government would provide 10 trucks of essential food items including rice, beans, maize, millet, and sorghum to those affected by the disaster.

The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, expressed sympathy for the flood victims and encouraged them to remain steadfast during this challenging period.

Several dignitaries present at the assessment, including the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, and former Deputy Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Ketso, commended Governor Bago for his swift response to the disaster and expressed appreciation for all donations received thus far.

The Mokwa flood has displaced numerous families and destroyed properties, highlighting the urgent need for both immediate relief and long-term resettlement solutions for affected residents.
