Two suspected armed robbers met a violent end at the hands of angry villagers after attacking two young herders in Borno State's Gubio Local Government Area, security sources reported on Friday.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in Charimeleri Bush, according to counter-insurgency expert and security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details via his official X handle.

According to reports, the unidentified assailants, armed with machetes, knives, and bows and arrows, ambushed two brothers, Abdu Ali and Abba Ali, while they were grazing a flock of 25 sheep. The attackers made away with the entire flock after the boys managed to escape.

The victims immediately alerted their father, Bukar Umara, who mobilized fellow villagers to track down the suspects. Following the robbers' footprints, the search party eventually intercepted the assailants and recovered the stolen animals.

During the confrontation that followed, one of the robbers reportedly stabbed a villager, Fannami Bukar, in the chest. This attack prompted immediate retaliation from the villagers, who fatally injured both suspects.

Security operatives later arrived at the scene, documented the incident, and recovered several weapons, including a bow and arrow, a sheath knife, and two head veils. The injured robbers were transported to Gubio General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.

The wounded villager is currently receiving treatment at the Primary Health Care Centre in Gubio and is reportedly responding well to treatment.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the deceased robbers. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, according to local security sources.

This incident comes amid growing concerns about rural security in parts of Borno State, where communities have increasingly resorted to self-help measures against criminal elements.
