Four persons, including three children, have died from suspected food poisoning in Katsina State's Magama Jibia area, security sources confirmed on Thursday.

The tragic incident occurred at Kaga Hassan Quarters in Magama Jibia, according to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, who disclosed the information via his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Police sources identified the deceased victims as Hussaina Ayuba, Ahmed Ayuba, and Nana Ayuba, all from the same family. The victims reportedly died while receiving treatment at Jibia General Hospital after consuming what authorities believe was poisoned food.

A fourth victim, 12-year-old Hafsat Ayuba, is currently recuperating and remains under medical care at the hospital.

According to the security expert, a 20-year-old woman, Fatima Abdulkadir, who prepared the spaghetti noodles allegedly consumed by the victims, has been arrested along with two other individuals in connection with the incident.

"The scene of the incident was visited by security personnel while those who died were released to their relatives for burial according to Islamic rites," Makama stated.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the suspected poisoning or the relationship between the suspect and the victims. The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths.

This incident highlights growing concerns about food safety in the region, with local health officials urging residents to exercise caution when consuming food prepared outside their homes.
