The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the service year of two corps members in Katsina State following disciplinary offenses. The affected corps members, who are serving under the 2024 Batch 'B' Stream 1, were found to have committed various infractions contrary to NYSC regulations.

NYSC Coordinator in Katsina State, Ibrahim Sa'idu, disclosed this information while speaking to reporters on Thursday. He explained that the extension was a direct consequence of the corps members' failure to adhere to the established NYSC laws.

Recognition for Outstanding Performance

In contrast to the disciplinary measures, the NYSC also recognized two corps members for their exceptional service during the year. Adeifan-Eniebukun and Joshua Amoswere-Agwale received honors for initiating and implementing meaningful community-based projects in their host communities.

The coordinator highlighted that these corps members had demonstrated remarkable commitment to community development throughout their service year.

Passing Out Ceremony

A low-key passing out ceremony was held on Tuesday, where 558 corps members successfully completed their one-year mandatory national service and received their Certificates of National Service.

During the ceremony, Sa'idu encouraged the outgoing corps members to utilize the skills they acquired through the NYSC's Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program. He advised them not to focus solely on seeking government employment but to consider becoming entrepreneurs by leveraging the training they had received.

"Don't just look for government jobs. Take advantage of the skills you've learned and become your own bosses," Sa'idu urged the corps members.

The NYSC program continues to serve as a platform for national integration and skills development for Nigerian graduates, with disciplinary measures in place to ensure compliance with its objectives and regulations.
