Controversial Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has publicly defied the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) after the agency declared him wanted for alleged rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Monday, the musician vowed not to turn himself in for interrogation, challenging the agency to provide evidence of his alleged crimes.
Background of the Allegations
BenriNews reports that NAPTIP declared Speed Darlington wanted after he failed to honor their invitation following his confession in a video shared on social media where he claimed to have slept with a 15-year-old girl.
The singer, however, has now threatened to sue the agency for defamation, claiming they are using his name for publicity.
Singer's Defiant Response
"NAPTIP pay attention, all this wanted you people posted everywhere, I want you to take that shit down. I'm not coming. Did you hear me? I'm not coming," Speed Darlington stated in his video.
He further claimed that his earlier statements were merely "irresponsible talk" and not a crime, questioning the agency's evidence and complainant.
"I have not committed any crime, all I need was to speak. Irresponsible talk is not a crime. Where is your evidence? Who is your complainant? Una won use me collect social media clout," he said.
The singer demanded payment and accommodations for any appearance before the agency, stating: "I charge N2.5 million for appearance, una go pay me N2.5 million plus round trip tickets for me and my PA, because I call that appearance."
Speed Darlington also questioned the basis of the cyberstalking allegations, asking: "Which one is cyber stalking? Who did I stalk? Did I post anyone? Did I call any name in the video?"
He concluded by threatening legal action: "Honestly I go sue una for defamation of character, for spoiling my name because you have no evidence."
Previous Developments
This development follows earlier reports that Speed Darlington had claimed his initial confession about sleeping with a minor was a prank. The singer has been under investigation since making the controversial statements.
