The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Uyoatta Warrie for allegedly killing his son, Joseph Warrie, in Eket Local Government Area of the state.

DSP Timfon John, the command's Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to reporters on Thursday in Eket, stating that the tragic event occurred on Sunday, June 1, at the family's residence located at 4 Ediam Street, Idua in Eket.

"The police are aware of the incident, and an investigation has commenced to determine the root cause of the death of the boy," DSP John said. "Let the investigation review the actual true cause of the boy's death, whether he was pushed or something else."

Details of the Fatal Confrontation

According to a source who requested anonymity, the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between father and son. The source revealed that the victim's mother owns a church near their residence.

During the altercation, Joseph reportedly broke a bottle with the intention of stabbing his father. However, Uyoatta allegedly overpowered his son and used the same object to stab him.

The victim was rushed to the hospital following the attack but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical attention.

The suspect is currently being detained at Uqua Divisional Police Headquarters in Eket as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

This incident adds to growing concerns about domestic violence and family-related homicides in the region, with authorities urging families to seek peaceful means of resolving conflicts.
