Nigerian international Tolu Arokodare has expressed delight after reclaiming his position as joint leading goalscorer in the Belgian Pro League following Genk's 4-1 victory over KAA Gent on Sunday.
The Nigerian striker found the back of the net against Gent, bringing his tally to 21 goals in the current season - 17 in the regular season and four in the Championship playoffs.
Arokodare now shares the top position with St Truiden's Adriano Bertaccini, who has also scored 21 goals this season (16 in the regular season and five in the playoffs).
"It's nice to be top scorer again," Arokodare told DAZN after the match. "I knew I wouldn't start (the game). Of course, we have other players who deserve to play minutes in the Play-offs, so I could understand that choice."
The Nigerian forward has been in impressive form this season, with his goalscoring prowess attracting attention across Europe. His performances have already earned him the prestigious Ebony Shoe Award, given to the best African player in Belgium.
Reports suggest that Arokodare's consistent performances have put him on the radar of several top European clubs, including German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
With the Belgian Pro League season approaching its conclusion, the Nigerian striker will be looking to finish as the outright top scorer, adding another accolade to what has already been a remarkable campaign for him.
