The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to residents against assaulting officers of its enforcement agencies, emphasizing that violators will face strict penalties.
This directive comes following recent reports of physical attacks on state officials, which the government described as a serious threat to law and order across the state.
Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Central Business Districts (CBD), condemned these assaults during a ministerial press briefing at the State Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday.
"We will not tolerate any act of violence against our officers," Lawal stated firmly. "Anyone found guilty of assaulting law enforcement personnel will be brought to justice."
She revealed that at least three CBD officers had been attacked while performing their official duties, highlighting the growing concern that prompted this warning.
Olumegbon-Lawal described these attacks as "serious infractions capable of disturbing public peace and undermining the laws of Lagos State," adding that security and enforcement personnel would now be more vigilant to ensure full compliance with the directive.
"As much as we train our officers regularly on how to relate professionally with members of the public, we frown at any action of violence," she emphasized.
The Special Adviser also called on residents to protect government assets in their environment and to obey all traffic rules. "These facilities belong to all of us and must not be left at the mercy of vandals," she added.
The government has assured that CBD officers and other enforcement personnel receive regular training to manage public interactions professionally, while urging residents to engage peacefully with these officials during the course of their duties.
