Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on residents to maintain heightened security awareness during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, emphasizing that vigilance remains crucial during festive periods.
In his Eid-el-Kabir message released through his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor urged the Muslim community to use the blessed occasion for intensified prayers for the state, the nation, and its leadership.
"I want to congratulate my Muslim brothers and sisters in Oyo State and across the world on witnessing the Eid-el-Kabir 2025," Makinde stated. "Again, I urge all Muslims and all residents of the state to be watchful and alert during the festivities, as security is a responsibility for everyone."
The governor emphasized the importance of community participation in security efforts with his now-familiar security mantra: "If anyone sees something, they should say something and the government will do something."
Makinde also expressed gratitude to the Muslim community for their "unrelenting support, prayers and sacrifice for the betterment of the state," acknowledging their contributions to Oyo's development and peaceful coexistence.
The governor's message comes as Muslims across Nigeria prepare to celebrate one of Islam's most significant festivals, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah's command.
Security agencies across the country have similarly issued advisories for the celebration period, highlighting the need for public cooperation to ensure peaceful festivities nationwide.
