The Lagos State Government has announced the arrival of three additional train sets, comprising 12 coaches, for the Blue Line Rail project. The announcement was made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu via his official X handle on Thursday.
"We have taken delivery of three brand-new train sets of 12 coaches in total for the Lagos Blue Line Rail," Sanwo-Olu stated. "It's a step forward in our efforts to make the daily commute in Lagos less stressful and more reliable."
Expansion Plans Underway
The governor further revealed ongoing plans to extend the rail service, stating: "We're not stopping here. Work is ongoing to extend the Blue Line all the way to Okokomaiko, and we're aiming to finish that by 2026."
Sanwo-Olu described the development as a major leap toward transforming the state's transportation landscape and expressed gratitude to residents for their continued patience and support.
"Thank you to the people of Lagos for their patience and hope," he said.
Service Improvements
The Blue Line Rail, which began operations on September 4, 2023, initially offered 12 daily trips. Following a brief suspension announced on October 11, 2023, the service resumed with a significantly increased frequency of 54 daily trips.
This latest addition of train sets is expected to further enhance the capacity and efficiency of the rail service, providing Lagos residents with improved transportation options in the bustling metropolis.
