Rivers United FC has urged their supporters to rally behind the team in their final Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) home game as they push to secure CAF Champions League qualification for next season.
The Port Harcourt-based club, currently sitting second on the NPFL table with 61 points, needs a victory against Nasarawa United in their final match of the season to cement their position and earn a spot in Africa's premier club competition.
Despite a disappointing result in their previous fixture, Rivers United has already guaranteed continental football for next season. However, the team coached by Finidi George is aiming higher with Champions League qualification now firmly in their sights.
"We know Sunday's result wasn't what we hoped for, but let's not overlook the significance of what we achieved in Ilorin – we've secured a continental ticket!" the club stated on their official Facebook page.
"This is a huge milestone for our club, and we're proud of everyone who's contributed to this success. While we may have missed out on the league title, our focus now shifts to sealing a CAF Champions League spot on Match Day 38," the statement continued.
The former NPFL champions emphasized the importance of fan support for the crucial fixture: "Let's come together as a team and push for a win against Nasarawa United. We're close, and with our collective effort, we can make it happen!"
Finidi George, who has previously expressed confidence in securing the Champions League spot, will be looking to guide his team to victory in what promises to be a decisive match for Rivers United's continental ambitions.
The date for the final home game against Nasarawa United is yet to be confirmed, but fans are encouraged to turn out in large numbers to support their team in this crucial fixture.
