Rivers United have officially kicked off preparations for the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, with 25 players reporting for pre-season training at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The players were warmly received by technical manager Finidi George and his coaching staff as they begin their campaign to build on last season's impressive second-place finish behind champions Remo Stars.

Continental Ambitions

The Port Harcourt-based club will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League alongside Remo Stars in the upcoming season, adding continental football to their schedule. This dual commitment will require thorough preparation as they aim to compete effectively on both fronts.

According to club sources, Rivers United are expected to engage in a series of friendly matches in the coming weeks to fine-tune their tactics and build match fitness before the new NPFL season commences on Friday, August 22, 2025.

Building on Last Season's Success

Under Finidi George's guidance, Rivers United emerged as one of the strongest teams in the previous campaign, narrowly missing out on the league title. Their second-place finish secured them a spot in Africa's premier club competition, marking a significant achievement for the club.

The early resumption of training indicates the club's determination to mount a serious challenge for the NPFL title while also making a meaningful impact in continental competition.

As other NPFL clubs, including Enyimba and Abia Warriors, have also announced their pre-season plans, the 2025/26 season promises to be highly competitive with teams strengthening their squads and tactical approaches.
