Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) giants Rangers International Football Club have finalized plans to establish a women's football team, expanding their footprint in Nigerian football.

The new team will be known as Rangers International Women, according to club officials. Their participation in the upcoming Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) season remains contingent on fulfilling all regulatory requirements set by the league's governing body.

"Yes, I can confirm that machinery is in motion to get a women's team," Rangers media director, Norbert Okolie told BenriNews. "Their participation in the NWFL will be determined by paper works."

This development marks a significant step for the Enugu-based club in promoting gender inclusivity in football. Rangers previously partnered with Green Foot Ladies to meet CAF's requirements for Champions League participation last year, providing comprehensive support to foster the growth and development of women's football in the community.

The former NPFL champions' move to establish a dedicated women's team demonstrates their commitment to expanding their influence beyond men's football and contributing to the development of the women's game in Nigeria.

The announcement comes at a time when women's football continues to gain momentum across Africa, with increased investment and attention from traditional powerhouses in men's football.
