Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesman for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared that Labour Party's presidential candidate Peter Obi cannot "take the risk" of returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite recent wooing attempts.
Speaking on Arise TV's Prime Time on Monday, Abdullahi firmly stated that Obi is already part of the ADC coalition, countering rumors about potential moves back to his former party.
"Let me say clearly, Peter Obi is in the coalition," Abdullahi emphasized. "Regardless of what anybody is saying. But it is good to see that it has taken the coming on board of ADC, to get PDP to begin to make some movements."
The ADC spokesman further suggested that the PDP faces significant challenges, claiming, "Everyone knows the jugular of the PDP is in the hands of the ruling party."
In what appears to be a direct message to those speculating about Obi's political future, Abdullahi added, "Peter Obi, more than anyone else, knows that he cannot take the risk of going to the PDP."
This statement comes amid growing political realignments as parties prepare for future electoral contests. The ADC has recently been strengthening its position, with several prominent politicians joining its ranks.
Political analysts view these developments as significant shifts in Nigeria's opposition landscape, potentially reshaping alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi, who left the PDP before the 2023 presidential election to contest under the Labour Party banner, has maintained a significant political following since his strong showing in that election.
