The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has apprehended two suspects in connection with separate incidents of vandalism at the Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse.

According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the first suspect, Abubakar Muhammad, a 22-year-old student of the institution, was arrested on July 22, 2025, at approximately 11:40 am.

Muhammad was apprehended for allegedly vandalizing eight TETFund-donated ceiling fans from various classrooms within the polytechnic premises.

"Abubakar confessed to taking the fans, stating that he sold the electric motors to one Yahya Isma'il, 20 years old, a scrap dealer nearby Dutse Central Mosque, near his house," the statement revealed.

However, when questioned, Yahya Isma'il denied any involvement in the illicit transaction.

In a separate but related incident, the second suspect, Fahad Nasir, also 22 and residing at Unguwa Dagari in Zai, was arrested at 9:00 am on July 23, 2025. Nasir was caught vandalizing aluminum roofing sheets covering classrooms at the same institution.

The NSCDC confirmed that both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into the incidents that have disrupted learning conditions at the polytechnic.

The command has issued a stern warning to potential vandals to desist from such criminal activities or face prosecution to the full extent of the law.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges in protecting educational infrastructure in Jigawa State, where institutions already face resource constraints in maintaining adequate learning environments.
