The National Association of Niger State Students (NANISS) has expressed profound grief over the death of Abdulkareem, a 200-level student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, who was fatally stabbed by suspected robbers.
In a statement released on Monday, NANISS described the incident as a devastating loss to both the victim's family and the entire student community in Niger State.
"We mourn the painful loss of our colleague, Abdulkareem. His death is not just a blow to his family, but to the entire student community in Niger State," the association stated.
Calls for Enhanced Security Measures
NANISS has joined other students who staged a peaceful protest in Lapai on Monday, demanding urgent intervention from government authorities and university management to prevent further tragedies.
"We urge the university management and relevant security agencies to take proactive steps to secure student lives and property. No student should have to live in fear," the association emphasized.
According to BenriNews reports, Abdulkareem was attacked at his lodge in the Ndakikpabu area, where assailants stabbed him in the neck. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Lapai but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Police Response
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed that tactical teams have been deployed to restore calm in the area. Authorities have also launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student's death.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of students living off-campus and highlighted the need for improved security measures around educational institutions in Niger State.
