Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has launched a scathing attack on Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing him as "the worst Senate President Nigeria has ever had" during a press briefing on Tuesday.
The embattled lawmaker, who was prevented from entering the National Assembly complex despite her attempt to resume sitting, accused Akpabio of running the Senate as if it were his "third term as governor of Akwa Ibom State."
Speaking to journalists at the National Assembly gate, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed her frustration with what she described as a pattern of mistreatment by the Senate President.
"That outburst I had on the floor was just a combination of so many wrongs that Akpabio has meted against me," she stated. "And I will say this, that it's a shame that we have had some many good Senate Presidents like Chuba Okadigbo of blessed memory, we've had David Mark, Bukola Saraki, and we've even had Ahmed Lawan who is currently a senator."
The Kogi Central representative further alleged that the current leadership style has created an atmosphere of fear and suppression within the legislative chamber.
"Many governors are afraid, you have all seen what's happening, you are not allowed to speak," she claimed. "When you try to speak or air your views on certain issues that are critical, you get shut down if it does not conform with what he wants."
The confrontation comes amid ongoing tension following Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's suspension from the Senate. Despite her determination to resume legislative duties on Tuesday, security personnel reportedly prevented her from accessing the complex.
This latest development adds another chapter to the increasingly strained relationship between the suspended senator and the Senate leadership, highlighting deeper divisions within Nigeria's upper legislative chamber.
