Isah Saidu Baka, former Chairman of Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In his resignation letter dated July 22, 2025, addressed to both the PDP Chairman of Muye/Egba Ward and the Niger State Chairman of the party, Baka cited personal and political convictions as his reasons for leaving the party he has long been associated with.
"After deep reflection and wide consultations with my family, political allies, and constituents, I have resolved to part ways with the PDP. This decision is borne out of my desire to explore new political frontiers that align more closely with my vision and the yearnings of my people," Baka stated in his resignation letter.
Baka, who served as Lapai Local Government Chairman from 2011 to 2014, also contested for the Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 general elections under the PDP platform.
The former council boss expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities provided during his political journey. "I'm thankful for the experiences, growth, and relationships I've cultivated within the PDP. I wish the party well in its future engagements," he added.
In declaring his allegiance to the African Democratic Congress, Baka described the ADC as a party that embodies his renewed political ideals and commitment to grassroots development.
Political analysts note that Baka's defection adds to a growing list of recent high-profile exits from the PDP in Niger State, potentially signaling a significant reshaping of the state's political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The timing of this political realignment comes as parties begin early preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle, with many politicians reassessing their affiliations and strategic positions.
