The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State has firmly rejected reports claiming that its members are defecting to an opposition coalition, describing such claims as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Saturday, the state chairman of the party, Umar El-Gash, emphasized that the party's structure remains intact at all levels and dismissed the defection rumors as a deliberate attempt by political opponents to sow discord within the party.
"The PDP in Yobe State is stronger today than it has been in recent times. The insinuation that our members are aligning with any coalition is false, unfounded, and a desperate attempt by political adversaries to create confusion and disunity in our ranks," El-Gash stated.
The chairman further clarified that no official of the party in Yobe State has joined any coalition or alliance outside the PDP, reaffirming the party's unity and readiness for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
El-Gash also addressed concerns from loyal supporters, noting that the party has actually grown stronger following the departure of certain individuals who he claimed had been undermining the party's progress.
"We are proud to state that the PDP in Yobe is stronger today than it has been in recent times. Following the exit of certain individuals whose actions consistently undermined the collective progress of the party, the atmosphere within the party has greatly improved," he added.
The statement comes amid growing political realignments across Nigeria as parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with various coalitions forming to challenge established political structures.
