Bandits suspected to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group have killed approximately 15 people in Kwallajiya village, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, in a violent attack that occurred on Wednesday afternoon.

According to local sources, the victims were buried according to Islamic rites on the same evening following the deadly assault on the community.

Community Concerns Over Rising Violence

A source from the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed deep concern about the increasing frequency of violent attacks by bandits in the region. The source suggested that these attacks are often facilitated by information provided to the bandits by some residents within the affected communities.

"It is very important that the people in the affected villages intensify efforts to cooperate with security agencies in order to curb the activities of these evil men in their areas," the source emphasized.

Attempts to reach DSP Ahmed Rufai, the police spokesman for Sokoto State, for official confirmation and details about the incident were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

Recent Security Challenges in Sokoto

This attack adds to the growing list of security challenges facing Sokoto State, particularly in rural areas where bandit groups have established a significant presence. The Lakurawa group has been implicated in several violent incidents across the northwestern region of Nigeria.

In recent months, security forces have intensified operations against terrorist groups in the state, including the neutralization of wanted terrorist kingpin Dambokkolo, as reported by BenriNews.

The Tangaza Local Government Area, where the attack occurred, shares a border with the Republic of Niger and has been particularly vulnerable to cross-border criminal activities.
