Scores of bandits and several military personnel have been killed following intense gun battles in Niger and Kaduna States, according to a statement from the Nigerian Army Headquarters on Wednesday.

The confrontations occurred in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka in Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, after bandits launched unprovoked attacks on these communities.

Military Response and Casualties

"Land and air component troops launched several counter-attacks that eliminated scores of bandits in the encounters," the Army stated in its official communication posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The statement confirmed that "some gallant warriors paid the supreme price in the day-long battles," while four wounded soldiers are currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds. The Army promised to provide additional updates on the situation.

This incident comes amid increasing security concerns in the northwestern region of Nigeria, where banditry and kidnapping have become persistent challenges for security forces and local communities.

In related developments, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State recently vowed to hunt down perpetrators responsible for killing Kaduna wedding travelers in Plateau State, demonstrating the escalating nature of security challenges in the region.

The Niger State government has also pledged a crackdown on insecurity following the killing of a student from Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU).
