Suspected bandits have launched a deadly attack on Kulho and Maikade villages in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, killing two residents and leaving others injured in an overnight raid on Wednesday.
According to security reports, the armed assailants stormed the neighboring communities late Wednesday night, targeting local residents in what appears to be another incident in the growing wave of insecurity plaguing the region.
Victims Identified
One of the victims has been identified as Alhaji Yahaya, the brother of Kulho village's Imam. Sources confirm that the Imam himself sustained injuries during the attack but survived the ordeal.
The second casualty was Alhaji Bello Maikade, described as a respected community leader from Maikade village, who was killed during the violent incursion.
Security analyst Bakatsine shared details of the attack on social media platform X, stating: "Yesterday night, bandits stormed Kulho and Maikade villages in Mashegu LGA, Niger State. They killed Alhaji Yahaya, the brother of Kulho's Imam (who was injured but survived) and also murdered Alhaji Bello Maikade."

As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. The attack adds to growing concerns about the deteriorating security situation in parts of Niger State, which has seen multiple violent incidents in recent months.
This latest attack comes amid other security challenges in the state, including recent flooding in Mokwa that reportedly claimed over 200 lives, and an earlier terrorist attack on a Nigerian Army base that resulted in the deaths of 17 soldiers.
