Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, met with Labour Party's former presidential candidate Peter Obi on Wednesday in Abuja, with both leaders focusing on national issues during their discussions.
Malami, who shared details of the meeting on his official Facebook page, emphasized that the encounter "reflects a shared concern for the future" of Nigeria, highlighting the importance of cross-party collaboration.
"At a time when unity, collaboration, and national purpose are more important than ever, it is encouraging to engage in meaningful dialogue with leaders from across the political spectrum," Malami stated.
The former AGF further noted, "Nigeria belongs to all of us, and moments like this remind us that progress is only possible when we set aside differences and work together for the good of our people."
Political Context
This meeting comes amid reports of coalition talks ahead of the 2027 elections, though neither Malami nor Obi explicitly confirmed this connection in their public statements. The timing has sparked speculation about potential political realignments as various leaders position themselves for the next electoral cycle.
Peter Obi, who garnered significant support during the 2023 presidential election, has remained an active voice on national issues, recently commenting on what he described as "bloodletting and corruption demarketing Nigeria" in messages directed at the current administration.
The meeting between these two prominent figures from different political backgrounds signals a potential shift toward dialogue across party lines at a time when Nigeria faces multiple economic and security challenges.
