As Nigeria commemorates 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, the Anyi'G Emeya movement has called on Nigerians to recapture the spirit of unity that characterized the June 12, 1993 era.

In a statement released on Thursday, the group's Director of Media and Publicity, Moses Idika, emphasized that Democracy Day should be a moment for national reflection on the promises and realities of democratic governance in Nigeria.

Reflecting on Democratic Values

"Today, we are marking 26 years of unbroken democratic governance in Nigeria. As we roll out the drums to celebrate Democracy Day 2025, it is time for reflection," Idika stated.

The group highlighted the core values that democracy should deliver, including peace, security, freedom, free enterprise, industrialization, improved living standards, patriotism, and service to the people.

"It is time to reflect on the issues and promises that democracy brings and for us to introspect on these issues to find out if indeed we have enjoyed or are enjoying democracy in Ebonyi State," the statement continued.

June 12: A Symbol of National Unity

The Anyi'G Emeya movement particularly emphasized the significance of June 12 as a symbol of Nigeria's collective resolve across political, ethnic, and religious divides.

"June 12 represents the collectivism of one Nigeria, a Nigeria that is blind to primordial sentiments. June 12 stands for our collective destiny as a great nation, and to keep the real memory of June 12 is to revert to the very fabric that united Nigeria on June 12, 1993," Idika noted.

The group also urged Ebonyi residents to remain steadfast in their belief in democracy that prioritizes people, peace, prosperity, sustainable progress, and collective growth.

This call comes as various stakeholders across the country reflect on Nigeria's democratic journey since the return to civilian rule in 1999.
