Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Tinubu's administration to enable the government to achieve lasting peace and prosperity across the country.
Speaking during Eid al-Adha prayers at the National Eid Ground along Airport Road in Abuja on Friday, Shettima emphasized the importance of national unity and collective sacrifice in addressing Nigeria's challenges.
A Call for Unity and Sacrifice
The Vice President described Eid al-Adha as "a period of sober reflection, a season of reaching out to the indigent among us, and of building bridges of brotherhood and sisterhood." He noted that the celebration is rooted in Prophet Ibrahim's legacy of obedience and sacrifice—virtues he considers essential for building a strong and united Nigeria.
"Life is a marathon, and as individuals, we may run faster, but we can wear out easily. But as a family, as a collective, as a nation, we can gain greater traction and reach our desired destination," Shettima stated.
"What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us. I thank all Nigerians for their support and empathy and call on all of us to coalesce into a single purse to confront all of our common challenges of insecurity, destitution, and so many other challenges."
Looking Beyond Differences
The Vice President urged Nigerians to look beyond their differences and work together to forge common ground for national progress. He emphasized that unity of purpose and shared sacrifice are vital in addressing pressing issues such as insecurity and poverty.
Shettima specifically highlighted the need for citizens to stand behind President Tinubu's leadership, suggesting that a united front would be more effective in tackling the nation's challenges than individual efforts.
The Vice President's call comes at a time when Nigeria faces multiple challenges requiring coordinated national response and solidarity among citizens across different regions and backgrounds.
