Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has declared that Nigeria is being "targeted for destruction by a collection of urban bandits," emphasizing that the newly formed anti-Tinubu political coalition is focused on removing these elements from power.

El-Rufai made these remarks during an interview with Arise News on Monday evening, where he expressed optimism about the coalition's leadership approach, noting that personal ambitions have been set aside in favor of addressing national challenges.

"I'm sure they would [talk about aspiration later]. I mean, we are politicians, we are students of power," El-Rufai stated. "But nobody is talking about, 'I want to be the president or, you know, leave this for me' and so on."

The former minister continued, "Everybody is saying, 'we have a problem. This country is targeted for destruction by a collection of urban bandits. Let's come together, send them back home and put this country back on track.'"

Coalition's Primary Focus

According to El-Rufai, the coalition's immediate priority is addressing Nigeria's challenges rather than individual political aspirations. "It is about fixing the country. Nobody is talking about his ambition, and that has been very good so far. And I'm encouraged," he emphasized.

El-Rufai, once a key supporter who worked for President Bola Tinubu's emergence in 2023, has since left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP). As a leading member of the anti-Tinubu coalition, he has maintained that the former Lagos State Governor will not return to the presidential villa after the 2027 election.

The coalition reportedly includes prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, among others who have united despite their different political backgrounds.

Political analysts view this development as a significant realignment in Nigeria's political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, with potential implications for the current administration's policies and governance approach.
