Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced that the coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will make necessary sacrifices and work collaboratively to ensure Nigerians get competent leadership in the 2027 general elections.

Obi made this declaration in a post on X (formerly Twitter) while commenting on the coalition's formal adoption of ADC as its official political platform for the upcoming elections.

Coalition Leadership Structure

According to Obi, the coalition has appointed Distinguished Senator David Mark as National Chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary to steer the party's affairs ahead of the 2027 polls.

"Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation's future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first," Obi stated.

Strategic Coalition Building

The former Anambra State governor emphasized that the decision to form this coalition was not taken lightly but came after deep reflection on Nigeria's current situation and the necessary steps for progress.

"No one group can change Nigeria alone. To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls even when those bridges are uneasy. A New Nigeria is Possible," he added.

This development comes amid reports that four former ministers who served under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration and other All Progressives Congress (APC) heavyweights have defected to the ADC, strengthening the coalition's position ahead of the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, the Presidency has reportedly warned Nigerians that the coalition will "soon scatter," advising citizens to "open their eyes wide" regarding the new political alignment.

Political analysts view this coalition as a significant realignment of opposition forces in Nigerian politics, potentially creating a formidable challenge to the ruling party in the next general elections.
