The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, Rt Rev Professor Samuel Obiajulu Ike, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently investigate allegations that security operatives are colluding with terrorists and bandits across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing ahead of the 2nd Session of the 19th Synod of the diocese scheduled for June 26-29, 2025, Bishop Ike expressed deep concern over the continued loss of lives and property, particularly in Benue State and other affected regions.

"We therefore call on the president as a matter of national urgency and utmost security importance to investigate the strongly rumoured complicity and collusion of top security and intelligence chiefs with the terrorists and bandits," the Bishop stated.

He further urged that decisive action be taken against officers found negligent or complicit, recommending they "should be prosecuted and flushed out" of the security system.

Additional Security Recommendations

The Anglican leader did not stop at calling for investigations. He also advised President Tinubu to:

  • Investigate allegations that some individuals are profiting from the fight against insecurity

  • Remove non-performing service chiefs

  • Deploy the drones and jets procured for combating insecurity, noting that despite significant expenditure on these assets, insecurity continues to rise

  • Consider establishing state and community policing systems

Bishop Ike expressed optimism that the upcoming Synod, themed "Living By Every Word of God," would provide a platform for spiritual revival that could positively transform the country. The event, which will take place at St Paul's Anglican Church in China Town, Enugu, will address challenges facing the church and explore solutions.

The Bishop extended an invitation to the general public to participate in the Synod, emphasizing that it aims to foster revival both within the church and across the nation.
