The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has strongly condemned the killing of 12 travelers who fell victim to a mob attack in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The victims were among 31 passengers traveling in an Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria bus to Qua'an Pan Local Government Area to attend a wedding when they were attacked on Friday night.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Speaker Abbas described the incident as "unprovoked and unacceptable," emphasizing that no Nigerian should be subjected to violence while engaging in peaceful activities.

Call for Justice and Investigation

The Speaker called on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the attack and ensure that the perpetrators of what he termed a "dastardly act" are swiftly brought to justice.

Abbas also extended his condolences to the families of the victims and urged communities across Nigeria to promote peace and tolerance, especially in regions with histories of communal tensions.

The attack comes amid ongoing concerns about security in various parts of the country, particularly in the Middle Belt region where Plateau State is located.

This incident follows reports of resurgent insecurity in neighboring states, highlighting the persistent challenges facing Nigeria's internal security apparatus.

As of the time of this report, authorities have not provided details on arrests or the specific circumstances that led to the attack.
